CPR Class Requirement
The State of Iowa passed legislation for the Healthy Kids Act and this new law has a requirement for education in CPR.
Prior to graduating, a student in a public school district or accredited non-public district, must complete a course in CPR. The sub-rule will be in effect for the Class of 2012.
Every student will have to complete a psychomotor course (skills training and practice, not an online course) that leads to certification. This means the student does not have to be certified, but they must have the training.
Urbandale High School plans to include the course as part of the Physical Education curriculum for seniors. Plans for students in contract P.E. will be made available before the 2011-2012 school year, when the law goes into effect.
We will accept from student’s evidence of a previous successful CPR course completion (from a nationally recognized CPR course) beginning in the fall of 2011.
Questions regarding this new requirement may be directed to Mr. Hutchinson, UHS Principal.
