Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I can’t wait to get to know your child and work with your child each day here in our kindergarten classroom! This is a very exciting time for you and your child, as they are taking the first step into “real” school. Along with this big step come many different emotions, not only for your child but also for you as a parent. I love working with children and helping them to grow and develop independence, accomplish tasks, develop friendships among the other students and guiding and encouraging them to work together.
I am very honored and excited to be your child’s kindergarten teacher! We are going to have a lot of fun, learning and exploring in our classroom. Getting to know your child is my number one priority but I also want you and your child to know a little about me. I was born and raised here in Urbandale and I attended kindergarten here at Olmsted. I attended Valerius Elementary for 1st – 5th grade and graduated from Urbandale High School. Following high school graduation I attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, where I received my degree in elementary education with endorsements in early childhood education, reading and coaching. After college graduation I taught preschool and then I started teaching kindergarten in September of 2014. My husband and I stay busy with our new puppy named Wrigley. I also enjoy reading, spending time with family and friends, staying in shape and being athletic, and being outdoors and experiencing all that nature has to offer.
In my classroom, I will strive to teach all children and reach all children. I believe that a good teacher teaches the whole child which means they teach to their hearts as well as their heads. I believe a good teacher makes deposits in student’s hearts and I want to be able to instill a love of learning in my students. One of my favorite quotes is, “they don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” I will develop an atmosphere of trust, safety, and caring in my classroom, building relationships with my students so that they will not be afraid to be engaged in all learning activities. I want to give my student’s positive learning experiences and the opportunity to succeed through a variety of choices in a relevant curriculum based on the needs of the individual student. I believe a good teacher respects individual learning styles and is willing to go the extra mile to reach each student. Education is one of the keys to an individual’s success. Teachers hold the keys. Teachers need to be a guide and mentor to help students choose the right keys that will open up many new doors of opportunity in their life long journey. Your child’s journey begins today here in my kindergarten classroom. Buckle your seat belts, sit back and enjoy the ride as we take off on an exciting learning adventure!
If you have any questions, comments or concerns please don’t hesitate to reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to having your child in my class this year!
Sincerely, Mrs. Englund
