Music can change the world. --Beethoven
Because it can change people. --Bono
Welcome, students & families!
Meet the teacher
What a thrill to lead the general music classes at Karen Acres Elementary as well as serve the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at Olmsted Elementary. A native of Ottumwa, I hold Bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Piano Performance from The University of Iowa in Iowa City and a Master’s of Music Education from The Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington. Musical training in Orff-Schulwerk was completed at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in addition to First Steps in Early Childhood Music and Conversational Solfege studies under Dr. John Feierabend (Hartford, CT).
What we do
During music classes, students work to develop tuneful singing voices and learn to read and write music using notation. In addition, rhythm skills are developed through movement, New England Folk Dancing, and by playing classroom instruments. One key classroom goal is to have fun while learning with one another.
