Welcome to an exciting kindergarten year for everyone!
My name is Terri Muehlenthaler-Holmes and I am so thrilled to be your child’s Kindergarten teacher. This is my 36th year of teaching.
I grew up in Kelley, Iowa with my brother and two sisters, where I then attended Ballard High School. I received my BA in elementary education, music minor, early childhood endorsement, and MA in educational psychology from UNI. My first teaching experience was at Taft Elementary in Humboldt, Iowa. I’ve taught in Urbandale since 1988. I’ve taught music, Optional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade.
I have four children of my own. Steven a graduate from ISU works as an architect for his company in Texas via Georgia; Tessi a graduate of Drake works as a reporting analyst in California; Valerie an ISU graduate works at IDT Integrated DNA Technology in Iowa City; and Michael will graduate from ISU this December pursuing his dream of being a chemical/nuclear engineer. My husband Brian is a software developer at Cognizant.
When I’m not teaching or planning fun things for us to do at school, I enjoy reading, swimming, sewing, cross-stitching, genealogy, or just spending time with my family and friends.
I encourage you to check my Urbandale web page for newsletters, helpful information, and ideas on reading, writing, and math. My web page is a great place to check if you are missing information I previously sent out. Look for our KINDERGARTEN REVIEW newsletter that is emailed out every few months to inform you about what we will be doing in the coming months of school. I will also be emailing you daily, so that you know what we did for the day. I am hopeful that my daily email will help you communicate with your child about their day. As we begin the year, we will be exploring the school, discussing expectations, and goals. In science, we will begin observing trees and weather. We will learn letter names, letter sounds, and sight words. The class will read and write every day. Our class will begin math by learning counting skills, exploring 2D shapes, and recognizing numbers to 20.
My passion is to help children realize how much fun it is to learn new things, accomplish their goals, and become great leaders. There are many great activities planned for this school year. Your child will have many new ideas to share with you. I look forward to working with you and your child! I can be found in room 4. This year, I will be sharing a classroom with Mrs. Emerson.
