Olympic Gold Medalist Cullen Jones Visits Urbandale

Cullen Jones is one of only two African American Gold Medal Swimmers ever.  He has become a spokesperson for Make a Splash, helping to educate the public on the importance of learning how to swim because drowning is the second-leading cause of accidental death.  At the Make a Splash Event here in Urbandale, he shared his personal story with 900 middle school students about going from nearly drowning at age five to the Olympic podium.  The district would like to thank the Urbandale Parks and Recreation department for sharing this experience with our students.
