Physical Education Curriculum
Physical education is an integral part of the total educational program of the Urbandale Community School District. It is imperative that we, the community, embrace a holistic emphasis on personal health, fitness, and wellness. The physical education program, through active participation, promotes respect and cooperation and develops positive attitudes that help contribute to lifelong physical activity. Instruction includes but is not limited to movement and body mechanics; fitness activities, rhythmic activities, tumbling and gymnastics, water safety, sports skills and activities; physical fitness to increase cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and flexibility; dance; leisure and lifetime activities. UCSD physical education classes are provided for all students regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, disability, religion, or creed.
What Urbandale Educators Are Saying
“All students at Urbandale Middle School will experience a dynamic and well-rounded physical education curriculum. The goal of our program is to empower all students to pursue a lifetime of health enhancing physical activities. The UMS physical education department strives to bring learning to life for students by giving them a variety of fitness activities, regardless of ability, to meet physical challenges, develop healthy habits, and assess individual abilities and fitness goals. I believe the UMS Physical Education program has established high standards for all of our students. I absolutely love my job and value my role as a physical educator in our district. Sharing in the learning process with our students is so exciting!” – Corey Brown, Physical Education Teacher, Urbandale Middle School
“UHS P.E. believes in providing an environment where students develop a lifelong appreciation for being physically active. We feel when students have choices they take ownership in their personal fitness while gaining an understanding of the numerous opportunities where they can be active. Our philosophy extends beyond the classroom; it is one where students learn and apply for a lifetime.” – Sam Anderson, Physical Education Teacher, Urbandale High School
