Jensen Elementary 5th Grade Student Celebrates Top Honors With Governor Kim Reynolds During Heartland Essay ContestCreated on April 1st, 2019
Jensen Elementary fifth grade student, Nel Htoo in Mrs. Hammes’ class, was inspired to write an essay for the Red Cross Heroes of the Heartland Essay Contest. Nel’s essay shared how Mrs. Hammes is like a second mother to her and how Mrs. Hammes inspires her. The essay was selected as one of only five winners (out of 75+ entries!). Nel was celebrated at a breakfast on Tuesday, March 26, at the Iowa Events Center. The event welcomed more than 450 attendees, including Governor Kim Reynolds.
Congratulations to Nel for writing such a compelling, meaningful, and powerful essay that captured the hearts and minds of the judges in the Red Cross Heroes of the Heartland Essay Contest. Thank you to Mrs. Hammes for being such an outstanding and inspiring leader for your students. We are incredibly proud and thankful for you both! #proudofU
