UHS Seniors Selected To Perform National Anthem At State Basketball Tourney

Following a rigorous audition process, four Urbandale High School seniors: Michaela Gyure, Michael Madison, Jonathan Temple and Katie Twedt have been selected by the Iowa High School Music Association to open session two of the Boys State Basketball Tournament by singing The Star-Spangled Banner on Monday, March 9, 2015, at 6:35 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena Iowa Events Center. The students have been singing together for the past two years and have achieved numerous accomplishments including selection to the 2013 and 2014 Iowa All-State Choruses.

“The selection of Katie, Michaela, Jon, and Michael for this performing opportunity is a reflection of their unique ensemble cohesion and exceptional work ethic,” said Ted Brimeyer, Vocal Music Director, Urbandale High School.

Being selected to perform at the Boys State Basketball Tournament and All-State Choruses requires hard work, dedication and a commitment to excellence. It is through the pursuit of mastery that increases engagement and motivation, and is a reflection of the overarching aim of the Urbandale Community School District to transform education in order to more fully engage, challenge and motivate all students. The District congratulates these high-achieving students for being selected by the Iowa High School Music Association—it is a great honor and one that acknowledges the far-reaching talents of these accomplished students.
