UMS 6th Grade Chorus Selected To Attend Midwest Children’s Choir FestivalCreated on April 19th, 2019
The Urbandale Middle School 6th Grade Chorus, under the direction of Lisa Merfeld, has been selected to participate in the Midwest Children’s Choir Festival. The Midwest Children’s Choir Festival was held on Friday, April 26, 2019, in Stephens Auditorium in Ames at 7:00 p.m.
The festival is sponsored by the Ames Children’s Choirs and will feature guest conductor Dr. Elizabeth McFarland, well-known choral educator from Southeast Missouri State University. Three guest choirs will perform separately: the Siouxland Youth Chorus, the Urbandale Middle School 6th Grade Choir, and the Ames Children’s Choirs. Then, select singers from across the state of Iowa will join the featured choirs to perform in the Festival Mass Choir, totaling 365 singers.
“Anytime people in your professional field recognize the dedication and extraordinary comprehensive choral program in which you work is incredibly humbling and fulfilling,” said Merfeld. “This group of students, as well as all the past choruses I’ve worked with, are incredible individuals that work collectively to learn and grow as singers every day. I am lucky to work with such great young people and the K-12 music staff.”
Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for students/seniors and are available at the Stephens Ticket Office or through TicketMaster @ 1-800-745-3000. For more information call (515) 290-1422.
Congratulations to UMS 6th Grade Chorus for being selected to attend the Midwest Children’s Choir Festival. The invitation is a reflection of the passion, dedication, and collaboration demonstrated by chorus members, and the exemplary leadership by Lisa Merfeld. We are #proudofU!
