Urbandale Chamber Presents Educator Of The Year Award

On Thursday, May 28, 2015, the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce presented the Educator of the Year Award to Mrs. Esther Burgett, Second Grade Teacher, Olmsted Elementary, during a surprise presentation at the end-of-year assembly.

Mrs. Burgett began her teaching career at Olmsted Elementary in 1973. For over 40 years, she has had an incredibly positive impact on the culture of Olmsted by being extremely encouraging, approachable, Esther Burgett 2015 Educator of the Year_resizedand warm-hearted. She has been instrumental in the lives of so many students by helping them to believe in themselves and in their own potential.

“Mrs. Burgett displays a true desire to provide a student-centered learning environment, a strong passion in her work, deep knowledge of academic content, and has a heart of gold when it comes to children,” said Elyse Brimeyer, Olmsted Elementary Principal. “Mrs. Burgett is a leader in our school and a team player in every way.”

Mrs. Burgett continually seeks feedback from her students and colleagues in order to make adjustments and improvements to ensure all students are learning and achieving at high levels. Through embracing Quality/Continual Improvement practices, Mrs. Burgett has created a true partnership with students by clearly posting student learning goals, objectives, and a classroom mission statement co-created with her students. Students in her classroom have greater input, ownership, and voice in their learning—key components to supporting the District’s Vision of bringing learning to life for everyone.
