About Me

I am beginning my seveth year as an administrator at Urbandale High School and third as Assistant Principal. During my first four years, I served as the Dean of Students, working primarily with attendance and campus supervision. This year, I will continue working with attendance related issues along with PowerSchool. Before becoming an administrator, I taught speech and English at UHS four years and at Winterset High School for two years prior to that. During parts of those years, I coached speech, debate, football and basketball.

After graduating from Urbandale High School in 1992, I earned my Bachelor or Arts degree at Eastern Illinois University in 1996 and my Master of Education from Iowa State University in 2002. I am received my Education Specialist degree at Drake University during the summer of 2009.

I am a lifelong resident of Urbandale and am proud to call it my home. Knowing the importance of community, I volunteer in the Urbandale Lion's Club and with student organizations here at school, the Leo Club and the Make a Difference/Big Brothers/Big Sisters group. My wife and I have two children ages seven and four.

As an Assistant Principal at Urbandale High School, one of my roles is to assist the education process through the monitoring and maintaining of positive attendance patterns in all of our students. As educators, we realize that attendance is a crucial piece our students' learning. When students miss school, experiences and activities done in the classroom cannot be replicated to the extent they were when they originally took place. A student's chance of being successful at school or work starts with good attendance.

Continuing this fall, students with good school attendance will able to opt out of up to two of their semester finals. This program is open to all students--grades 9-12--who meet the criteria on a per class per semester basis. The criteria a student must meet to be eligible can be found in the menu below.

Ultimately, UHS is rewarding the efforts of all students with good school attendance through this program.

If you have any questions regarding this or other attendance related or PowerSchool issues, please feel free to contact me.
