World Food Prize 2025 Iowa Youth Institute
Created on May 8th, 2025Congratulations to Madison Halstead, David Mawia, Ailie McLaren, Abigail Shaka, and Tori Thraen who were named Borlaug Scholars and earned $1,000 scholarships to Iowa State University’s College of Agriculture & Life Sciences for their participation in the World Food Prize’s Iowa Youth Institute on April 30. The students wrote research papers about solving food security challenges in Nigeria, the Philippines, Cyprus, and Rwanda. They eventually presented their work to panels of experts and peers and learned from those global experts to earn this distinction.
“It was very interesting to listen to other students’ impressions of food insecurity in other countries & how their solutions varied from topic to topic,” Tori Thraen, UHS Student.
