Following an extensive interview process, we’re pleased to share that Mrs. Emma Copeland has accepted the position of UHS Dean of Students for students with last names L-Z. She will serve alongside UHS Dean of Students, Mr. McConnell. 

With over a decade of educational leadership experience, Mrs. Copeland brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this position. Mrs. Copeland joins us from the Johnston Community School District (JCSD) where she served as a School Counselor at the high school for the past five years. Prior to that, Mrs. Copeland served as an English teacher and Lead teacher in JCSD for three years, and an 8th grade English Language Arts teacher at the American International School of Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for two years. Mrs. Copeland holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Drake University, a Master of Science in Professional School Counseling from Buena Vista University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English with a Minor in Secondary Education from Simpson College. 

“I’m thrilled to be joining Urbandale High School this fall and becoming part of a community that truly puts students at the center of every decision, every day,” said Copeland. “I look forward to supporting UHS students as they change the world!
