Following an extensive interview process, we’re pleased to share that Dr. Lindsey Cornwell has accepted the position of UMS Principal, pending Board approval. 

Since 2015, Dr. Cornwell has been serving as the Principal of Horizon Elementary School in the Johnston Community School District. Before joining Johnston Schools, Dr. Cornwell served as the Principal of Wright Elementary in Des Moines Public Schools for eight years. While serving Johnston and Des Moines Schools, Dr. Cornwell facilitated professional development in the area of school leadership and concept-based curriculum development to elementary and middle schools throughout Iowa, California, Minnesota, and Colorado through her work as an Artful Learning Leadership Consultant and Master Trainer. Dr. Cornwell holds a Doctorate of Education in Educational Administration, an Advanced Studies Certificate in Superintendency, a Master of Arts in Educational Administration, and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Spanish from the University of Northern Iowa. 

“I am eager to join the Urbandale Middle School team this fall,” said Dr. Cornwell. “The staff puts students first, which aligns with my student-centered, growth-oriented philosophy on education.  I am eager to support ‘bringing learning to life’ for staff, students, and families in a district where all matter and all belong.”
