We are excited and committed to helping provide a variety of opportunities to benefit our students, families, and teachers throughout the school year. Valerius PTO has created direct links to ALL of our Valerius volunteer opportunities using the Bringit.bz site. No need to create a profile – it’s just one click when you want to help. Signing up couldn’t be easier! Links are included in the bulleted activities above and we will send out the specific links periodically by email as an event approaches…if you didn’t “opt in” at registration, email us and we will get you added to our list. Also, if a second parent would like to receive communication, please let us know! The District’s registrar system only allows for a “primary” email contact.
We have a volunteer opportunity for everyone and you will be rewarded with great friendships and the chance to spend some quality time with your child(ren) during the swiftly passing elementary school years!

PROGRAMS, EVENTS + ACTIVITIES
Box Tops Program
An easy way for families to contribute to our active PTO is by collecting and saving General Mills Box Tops for Education.
Each Box Top we collect is worth 10¢ for our school. Previous years we have made over $1,500 from Box Tops! The money from the Box Tops helps pay for things like field trips, CultureAll Day and replenishing worn out playground balls, hula hoops and jump ropes. We run the collection program for the full year, and have 4 contests to encourage students to bring in box tops and labels from home. Each teacher has a collection box in their classroom. The winning classroom(s) for each contest wins a popcorn and movie party for their class. The contests are structured so that every class will win at least once during the school year.
2018-2019 Deadlines for Contest:
- October 12, 2018 – classroom with the most wins
- December 7, 2018 – classroom with the most wins
- February 15, 2019 – classroom with the most wins
- April 12, 2019 – each classroom that brings in 100 box tops/labels wins a party (if they haven’t had one yet) or a treat (if they have already won this year)
Scholastic Book Fair
Our two Book Fairs are the same weeks as conferences (typically in October and March). The Book Fair week is always lots of fun for the students, and gives families the opportunity to find some great books for their kids and to come to school for a fun family lunch (called Lunch with a Loved One) at the end of the week. The Book Fairs at Valerius also serve as a fundraiser for our school library and classroom libraries – we typically raise around $5400 annually for books for our school, and families donate more than 200 books to our teachers for kids to use in the classrooms!
The Book Fair is run entirely by volunteers. Please think about volunteering your time this year – it is easy, fun to do, and it helps our school! We need people to help set up and tear down the fair, to help students make their wish lists as each class visits the fair during the student previews, to help students find books during the student shopping time, and to help run the fair registers during conferences and the Book Fair family lunch (the registers are easy to use, and we give you instructions on what to do). The Valerius Elementary PTO invites all families to participate in this wonderful event that promotes literacy and a love of reading in addition to raising funds for our school. In addition to funding literacy sets and classroom materials, our past Read-A-Thons have raised funds for the new playground equipment installed Summer 2015 and a new laminator.
What is the Read-A-Thon? Students obtain pledges from sponsors for reading and then collect the pledges at the end of the reading period. Students are encouraged to participate even if they cannot obtain pledges.
UPDATED MEETING SCHEDULE FOR 2018/19: Meetings are held at 7pm in the Valerius Library. All are welcome to attend! Free childcare will be provided.
The Officers will meet during the “off” meeting months to conduct regular business.
