UHS Decathlon Team takes 7th Place at State

The Urbandale High School Academic Decathlon team earned 7th Place at the Iowa State Academic Decathlon Competition held on March 1-2, where they competed in 10 events related to the theme Technology & Humanity.  The team studied challenging materials to test their academic strength in Art, Music, Literature, Economics, Science, Social Science, Math, Essay, Speech, and Interviews.  The state team consisted of Natasha Mills (captain), Hailie Bonz, Cayden Feldotto, Muqadas Ibrahimi, Tyler Nguyen, Daniela Correa, Adriana Bustos-Laparra, Naomy Arechiga-Melendez, and Yaritza Escareño. Cung Mang served as an alternate on the state team.

Three individuals won awards for their specific accomplishments.  In the scholastic division, Tyler Nguyen won the Gold award in Essay and Natasha Mills took home the Bronze for her essay.  Yaritza Escareño won a Gold award in the varsity division for her Math exam. UCSD Board Member Rachel Kent was also honored for her years of support to the Urbandale AcDec team with a special award from the Iowa Academic Decathlon organization.
