Urbandale Schools will bring learning to life for every student in Social Studies by preparing students to be global citizens through inquiry-based learning about the world they live in and where they came from.

Learning Through Inquiry

  • Student learning is driven by compelling and supporting questions
  • Students use multiple primary and secondary sources
  • Students make a claim and support it with evidence
  • Students communicate their claims through writing and speaking
  • Students take informed action beyond the classroom

Application of Literacy Standards

  • Students apply reading, writing, speaking and listening in social studies on a daily basis
  • Students communicate and show their learning in social studies through literacy skills

Content Knowledge for Life, Career & College Readiness

  • Students use content to better understand the past, present, and our future
  • Students use content to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good
  • Students use content to demonstrate awareness of diverse groups and individuals and social responsibility
